		<description>Tithing is not necessarily a bad thing -- the church as an organization needs a source of income. It is good to allocate part of your income to God. Remember also the widow woman who gave every penny she had. 

The real problem is the abuse that's come to be associated with tithing -- it cannot be a requirement for church membership as you correctly pointed out nor can we pressure others to give. Tithing or any giving must be voluntary. Secondly, the poor or other church members need to come first, that is, people come first, not the church building. If we are to sacrifice ourselves to give, it needs to be for someone in need. (I believe that is the message of a chapter in 2 Corinthians.)</description>
